(2/6) Hyperion Title Sequence

When undertaking my HND in Visual Communication at City of Glasgow College in 2021, I was briefed with creating a title sequence for a theoretical TV adaptation of the science fiction book series ‘Hyperion’ by Dan Simmons.

The saga centres around an ensemble cast with intertwining stories which all revolve around an indestructible being named The Shrike, accordingly the piece uses symbolism related to each characters narrative to tease story elements as their title appears.

In 2023, for a portfolio module related to my Honours Degree in Digital Media & Interaction Design at Edinburgh Napier University I completely remade the piece to a higher standard by replacing illustrations with manipulated photography and by utilising a host of new and advanced After Effects techniques I had learned during my preceding studies…
